England's Championship is widely regarded as tough league filled with a lot of quality footballers. However, while many have top class potential, not all of these players would have the ability levels to do well in the top-class environment that is the English Premier League. So, which Championship players would have the ability to hold their own in the top flight?
Nottingham Forest and Northern Ireland goalkeeper Lee Camp is one who could likely cope well with the step up in class. The shot-stopper has proved to be a smash hit in the Championship over the past few seasons. His consistently strong performances have seen him become the lynchpin of the Nottingham Forest defence and won him many admirers in English football. Camp was capped by England at under-21 level, but after failing to break into Fabio Capello's squad, he opted to play for Northern Ireland, and it's fair to say his international experience would help him cope with life in the Premier League.
Cardiff City's Peter Whittingham is another of the Championship's best performers. The ex-Aston Villa midfielder already has significant Premier League experience after coming through the youth system at Villa Park. He left Villa so that he could play regular football and it seems to have worked for him. In season 2009/10 he became a firm favourite at Cardiff City by scoring a sensational 25 goals from midfield. Any player who can score 25 goals from midfield in the Championship could certainly cope with the rigours of life in the Premiership - especially when you add in his previous top-level experience.
West Ham United's Mark Noble could be another who likely has the ability to succeed in the Premier League the second time around. However, the diehard Hammers supporter has not always been a firm favourite with the fans. In previous years he earned a reputation for being rather prone to making basic mistakes, but this season he has improved greatly and has become one of the club's strongest and most consistent performers.
Southampton's Adam Lallana is considered by many to be the best player in the Championship. His dazzling skills and goal scoring ability have earned him rave reviews with many pundits predicting that he'll be signed by a big Premier League club in the not too distant future.
Many supporters of teams in the Championship will be hoping that the league can hold on to these top players. However, fans of some Championship sides could likely be very happy to see them go on to the Premier League, mainly to boost their own team's chances of getting there as well!
