Knowhow-Now Article

Over time fashion has evolved and women are now demanding that their clothing be both stylish and practical. Certain types of clothing traditionally associated with males or females are no longer restricted to gender, and androgynous styles are consistently becoming more frequent in clothing stores all over the world, offering women an option that's fashionable and functional.

Some of the most popular androgynous pieces that promise to be sweeping the runway over the Autumn and Winter of 2011 are the trouser, tuxedo jacket and sheer button up tops. Each of these pieces have been updated from their classic form and tailored to fit and flatter the female frame.

The trouser is a pillar of men's fashion, and for decades men have paired their favourite pair of chinos with a cardigan for an effortless casual look. Now women can create the same look, and trousers in all colours are quickly becoming a must-have in every wardrobe. Two popular trouser styles are the slim fitting straight leg or the high-waist flood pant. Pair a slim fitting trouser with a blouse or cardigan, and tuck in your favourite form fitting t-shirt to high waist trousers before completing the look with a belt.

The button up shirt is an iconic men's classic, and can be seen daily in any workplace environment or smart-casual atmosphere. Professional women have long used the blouse as an office favourite, but the blouse has slowly evolved and women are now choosing sheer button ups as a fashionable alternative. Choose a white sheer button up and wear it over the top of a form fitting tank with your favourite denim or a pair of shorts when the weather is warm. The sheer button up is basic and simple, and is a great choice for when you want to look your best on casual days. To add something extra, wear your favourite long necklace or a chunky, dramatic watch.

Another office staple in the menswear department is the blazer, but these jackets are no longer the symbol of a busy work day. Blazers are versatile and look great with jeans, skirts, and dresses, so they can finish off any outfit perfectly. This season, tuxedo jackets are front and centre and women are choosing pairing them with a pair of dark, form fitting jeans and stilettos for a sleek sophisticated evening look.

Either way, it’s impossible to deny the fact that androgynous fashions will be all over runways and the high street in the immediate future. From classic trousers to tuxedo jackets, the most fashionable women are turning to androgynous clothing to look great and feel comfortable in the latest runway sensation.
