Avoiding The Most Common Party Planning Mistakes

Throwing a memorable party, which guests may not forget for a long time, does not merely involved sending out all the invitations and providing good food and drinks. A successful party does not happen at the snap of a finger because there are so many things to be considered before, during and even after the party itself. In truth, hosts are usually more inclined to concentrate on what they need to do rather than what they must avoid; thus, they often commit some of the most common party planning mistakes.

Pulling off a dream party can be complicated and stressful for inexperienced hosts or amateur event planners. Imagine having to deal with different party facets all at the same time while trying to keep a composed stance in entertaining the guests. Although some hosting skill is required, it is more important to focus on the party details because when one of those disastrous party planning mistakes happen, the party is bound to become a flop.

Common Party Planning Bloopers

One of the most common party planning mistakes is the failure to make a guest list. It is possible to forget to invite important people unintentionally such as family members, relatives, friends, or even neighbors because the host is too pre-occupied with the other details of the party. In fact, this blunder may cause a permanent dent in family or friendly relationships no matter how excuses or apologies are expressed. Avoid this mistake by consulting family and friends to come up with a complete guest list. Make sure to double check the list if there is the need to make some adjustments when it gets too long or if there is the need to add more names to it.

When is the right time to send out the invitation? The simple task of sending out the invitations can muddle the party outcome. Hosts must know the right time to give out the most important piece that can put the party together. If invitations arrive too early, the invitees may possibly forget, misplace, or set it aside beneath other pieces of paper causing their failure to attend the event. On the other hand, sending out too late may not allow the guests to come due to other commitments or simply the lack of time to prepare for it especially for those who need to travel some distance. Determine when to send out the invitation in such time that it is advance yet close enough to guarantee the guests’ availability. The ideal time can be a month away from the event to be assured that the guests will mark the date on their calendar. However, if the party falls on a busy season, provide another two weeks on the time frame work. Always have extra invitations in case some names of important people suddenly pop out of the mind, whose names are not included in the guest list.

Part of the invitation detail is requesting the guests to respond. Some hosts tend to forget the RSVP line, which is very important in determining the party favours such as food, drinks and venue. It is considered polite to ask the guests to respond within a specified period and even more courteous for guests to provide their response by contacting the listed phone or email address.

Parties bring together different people who may not know each other. It is, therefore, the duty of the host to make sure everyone is introduced as each guest arrives. This is important in establishing the feeling of being acknowledged and received not only by the host but by the other guests as well. It is awkward for guests to manage introducing their own selves to people they hardly know. Once properly introduced, the guests can have more easy and relaxed mood to socialize.

Even if hosts have the utmost gracious intention to make all guests enjoy their parties, a single misstep in committing some of these common party planning mistakes can land them in the pit of disaster. A party can be truly memorable and spectacular for any host and the guests if these unforgiveable party planning faux pas are avoided.
