Take time out of your hectic Christmas schedule to enjoy the marvels of Edinburgh city centre and its festivities during the Christmas period. There is so much for you to see and do, and there is likely to be something that suits everyone, no matter what your age is, interests are or what your idea of a good time would be. Edinburgh is a city of diversity and culture, and it won’t disappoint.

Everyone has their own perception of Christmas and what it means to them personally, whether it’s about traditions or just enjoying the sparkle of the season; this city has the magic to make your Christmas what it should be and begins at the end of November right through to January – so really there’s no excuse not to visit when there is so much going on.

The city has a whole array of various events that will take you through the festive period, including authentic German markets which are filled with handmade gifts, decorations and traditional German food and drink for you to enjoy, really adding to the winter experience.

As well as the fantastic markets, the city is home to some of Scotland’s most prestigious theatres. Why not take your family along to a traditional pantomime or go with friends and get some great laughs while you are there. It’s a fantastic way to get you into the Christmas spirit and has been a traditional Christmas activity for hundreds of years, so why stop now?

Alongside these fantastic productions, there are plenty of other entertaining events to go and see including literature festivals, workshops and Christmas parties for everyone to enjoy.

The city’s attractions are still open to the public throughout the season and are even more breath-taking in amongst the beautiful winter scenery of the city. Book a tour round iconic landmarks like Edinburgh castle and absorb the stunning winter views whilst taking in a little bit of the city’s history.

There is no avoiding the shops at Christmas time, and making sure you find a perfect gift for everyone on your list is important; so while you are through in the city, take some time to make the most of Edinburgh’s fantastic shops.

Take your pick from a variety of shops, from prolific department stores, popular high-street brands right through to independent boutiques where you can get a one of a kind gift for someone special.

However, if you are visiting the city and looking for a way to celebrate the festivities, then the city’s nightlife has so much to offer you. Whether you want to enjoy a night in a cosy pub with close friends or go out and dance the night away – there’s bound to be the perfect place to suit you either way in Edinburgh.

Head up to George street in the city centre and enjoy an evening in the most cosmopolitan bars the city has to offer or venture to the Grass market for more traditional Scottish night time entertainment.

Save yourself the hassle of getting back home after your fantastic day in the city, and go back and relax in one of the many hotels in Edinburgh to really make the most of your festive frivolities.
