Knowhow-Now Article

The capital of Scotland, Edinburgh, has been a popular tourist destination for centuries and visitors today can experience a traditional warm welcome at one of the cities many wonderful hotels, whilst exploring the beautiful surrounds. Choosing a place to stay may feel like the first challenge, but luckily the array of Edinburgh hotels is as varied as the city itself, with something to suit every budget and taste.

Steeped in history, yet sparkling with life; much like those fictional Edinburgh residents, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Edinburgh is a city of contrasts. It is a place where old meets new, and an array of vibrant cultures exist side by side, where literature is as alive today as when Robert Louis Stevenson walked the streets dreaming up his next novel.

Take a wander through the Gothic Old Town, where hotels and their cobbled streets are drenched in history and breath-taking views across the city await you around each corner. The area is littered with cosy candlelit pubs, independent coffee shops and restaurants offering delicious Scottish cuisine, if you fancy a stop along the way.

Expand your palette by sampling some Cullen Skink soup or tasty Haggis, Neeps and Tatties, and don’t forget to leave space for the creamy delicious Cranachan dessert. Alternatively, enjoy a wee nip of Scotland’s national drink in one of Robert Burns’ favourite taverns off the Royal Mile.

In the underground vaults beneath the city, lies a darker side to Edinburgh, to which you can take a tour and hear gruesome and ghastly tales from the past, or visit the crime scenes of those infamous grave robbers, Burke and Hare.

On the other side of Princes Street lies the New Town with its many shops and beautiful, blossoming gardens all presided over by a majestic castle.

Take a stroll and marvel at the grandeur of the pristine buildings, enjoy the sparkling Water of Leith river, or stop off for a cocktail in one of the many contemporary bars. A visit to the nearby Dean Gallery or the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, will satisfy your cultural needs.

Having a welcoming place to lay your hat and rest your weary legs at the end of a long day is the most import factor in planning your trip. Hotels in Edinburgh offer a multitude of options, and there is something to suit every budget and requirement. Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway, a city centre location or a family-friendly base for your adventures with the little nippers, there is an Edinburgh hotel for you.
