Knowhow-Now Article

What better way to experience a new city than to explore it like a local. Put yourself in their shoes and you’re sure to see more than if you stuck to just what’s in the tour books. Scotland lights up in the summer- literally, the sun sets after 10pm in June- so there’s more than enough time to take in all the cultural hotspots. Discover true Scottish heritage as you eat, drink, dance and travel throughout the cities of Scotland this summer.

Go behind the scenes of Scottish cities like Stirling, Glasgow and Dundee by choosing places to eat and drink that are off the beaten path. There are often delicious pubs and restaurants situated down alleys or closes that should be taken advantage of. Poke your nose around these areas and you’re sure to find a gem of a place and remember- a crowded restaurant is a good sign! Well-populated places mean it’s likely the food is good and stops you from having to wander long when you’re stomach’s already growling. You can order authentic Scottish food like haggis and pair it with a pint of lager or ale.

If it’s nightlife you’re after then simply ask a local on the street where he recommends. Word of mouth is a great way to spread the news of popular places and if you tell the person the kind of place you’d like to go, be it a late-night pub with live music or a nightclub with dance music, he or she will surely direct you to the best place. Another knowledgeable patron of any city is a taxi driver. Taxi drivers know the ins and outs of the city they drive in and will not only be able to advise the best place for you but will also drive you right there.

Finally, why not travel like a local too. Hop on a double-decker bus or walk around the streets of Aberdeen or Dunfermline. Travel between cities with the efficient and affordable train network. You can get great deals on trains to Edinburgh, the country’s bustling capital city. Explore the cobblestone streets of Old Town or shop in the posh shops of New Town. Edinburgh is home to a number of festivals in the summer so why not take advantage of these and see a foreign film or laugh your socks off at a comedy show while you’re in town.

Exploring cities like a local in Scotland will ensure you experience the true Scottish heritage you are there to see. By keeping your eyes and ears open you will undoubtedly have a brilliant experience in Scotland this summer.
