What You Should Know About Osteoporosis Diet

The growing incidence of osteoporosis worldwide has caused much concern from health agencies. Annually, one out of three women suffer from hip fractures related to osteoporosis. Hip fractures put at risk women's health that can cause disability or death, hence, osteoporosis must be given attention.

Women can do a lot to prevent from osteoporosis from setting in too early. One good approach would be to follow an osteoporosis diet which can provide all the nutrients needed to prevent the condition. Starting early with an osteoporosis diet can be done by reading the following information.

The first step is to meet the daily recommended allowance for Calcium. Usually, women must have an intake of 1000 to 1200 mg of calcium that can aid in the development of strong bones. The calcium in a woman's reaches very low levels at two stages in her life: menopause and pregnancy. However, the body's absorption of calcium can be enhanced by taking Vitamin D. The recommended daily intake for Vitamin D should be around 400 to 800 IU.

A complete osteoporosis diet is composed of various food types that are calcium enriched. Samples of such food are liver, calcium fortified milk and egg yolks. Women with smaller body frames are more prone to osteoporosis so they should seriously consider osteoporosis diet guidelines.

The second step in an osteoporosis diet is to avoid food groups that could possibly rob your body calcium. Many women unconsciously make poor food choices that put their bones health at risk. For example, drinking soda is a no-no for an osteoporosis diet because it contains phosphoric acid. Phosporic acid can greatly lessen calcium absorption of the body.

In an osteoporosis diet, too much salt intake must also be stopped. This means eating more naturally prepared food rather than canned or processed food. As a matter of fact, people consume too much sodium on a daily basis which can result to many health problems later in life.
A book titled Natural Myth,Calcium Solutions also tells us that allowing the body to become acidic is not good. The body can become too acidic when a person eats a lot of animal products and much sugar. The body reacts by pulling all the calcium from the bones to make it more alkaline.

Having known the do's and dont's of an osteoporosis diet, be smart and make wise choices.
