With every new season come new fashion trends, and this autumn the key is keeping warm yet looking effortlessly chic. So what are the hottest looks for Autumn/Winter 2011?

The easiest way to update your wardrobe is by adding a piece that you can mix and match, and layering is always a good idea to make sure you are prepared for whatever the weather throws at you.

Firstly invest in some decent waterproof boots that will see you right through to next spring. Key trends in boots are: plenty of buckles for a style that oozes rock chick cool; or cute lace up brogue boots in keeping with the vintage look. Choose from a small heel or flats depending on your usual taste.

Fake fur remains a fashionable choice this coming season, with cosy gillets or full fur coats for 1950s glamour. The parka is also making a resurgence in popularity. Capes and knitted ponchos are very city-chic and are sure to keep you warm on blustery blue-skied days. The blazer trend from summer continues into the colder months and wearing yours with a scarf will keep you looking stylish and feeling snug.

Dresses are a perfect ladylike look to wear with a cardigan, tights and boots. Block colours are still super trendy, with dazzling shades of emeralds and cerise to really brighten up the dull days.

The block colour trend is also popular in knitwear, where you will see jumper dresses and sweaters all embracing the style. Stripes also continue to be effortlessly chic this coming season and are the perfect pattern to transform a knitted jumper from dowdy to delicious. Cutesy Fairisle prints are timeless and give a quirky edge to any outfit.

Accessories this coming autumn and winter have a decidedly vintage edge. Cute beanie hats with bows will keep your head warm and gorgeous, whilst waist belts remain a popular choice to give you that hourglass, cinched in waist effect. Bags are smart and scholarly, in deep browns, dark reds and navy.

As the temperatures dip, cosy up in some of this season's lovely trends, including pretty dresses, cosy jackets and snuggly knitwear.
