Knowhow-Now Article

Designers like Stella McCartney and Marc Jacobs were instrumental in the recent revival of this iconic fashion pattern. TV presenter Alexa Chung and British actress Kate Winslet have been seen wearing some of the classical and avant garde polka-dot clothing from the catwalk launch in August 2011.

The monochrome colours of earlier times compete with vibrant, edgy colours and garments range from super-comfortable pyjamas to gorgeous evening pieces.

Be in vogue with a pair of wide-leg trousers that adhere to the new season’s shapes or slip on a sequin polka-dot dress for cocktail parties. The pattern is not restricted to clothing; don a pair of brogues which pay homage to this timeless design.

White, black or cream jeans could look stunning when teamed up with a bat-winged sleeve blouson, sporting a miniature polka-dot print. Ultra-high wedges and clutch bags are great accessories to maximise the trend.

Grab a polka-dot umbrella on your way to the office or swap your austere ‘working-week’ clothes for a playful spotty jumpsuit to feel a part of the ‘polka’ craze. Summer days beckon us poolside; you could swop your faded swimsuit for a one-piece, vintage period costume. Appear slimmer on your lounger as it features enhanced rouching, built-in body control and, of course, a plethora of polka-dots.

Grand occasions call for women's dresses to deliver glamour and style.

This season features some great designs such as a sleeveless ‘2-in-1’. So many combinations will catch your eye; perhaps try a polka dot top combined with the flowery patterned skirt or a ‘bodycon’ dress with its sheer top sprinkled with black spots.

Slip on an easy-care Viscose ‘shirt-waister’ dress, for a more relaxed occasion, with elements of the polka-dot pattern. Wrap a Valentino ‘Glam V’ signature belt around your waist and treat your feet to a slinky pair of patent, sling-back sandals. Drape a plain bowling bag over your arm to complete the ensemble.

If you feel the need to make a statement, go for a Marc Jacobs label; his gorgeous puff-sleeved tops incorporating the trendy spots will look great with some slim line pants. Nina Ricci comes into play with sophisticated polka-dot printed scarves which will enhance any outfit. Polka-dot patterned sunglasses, underwear and sheer pantyhose will compliment your wardrobe further.
