Protect your skin from the wind and cold temperatures during the winter, for instance by wearing a hat, a scarf and a thick coat. Exposing your skin to the sun is healthy and enjoyable, but you should not get more than half an hour of sunbathing a day. Stay away from tanning booths too; the exposure to UV rays is a lot more than your skin needs.

Hydrate your skin on a daily basis. You should apply some moisturizer every morning and every night if you need to. Use a quality moisturizer, and check the ingredients to make sure it does not contain any harmful chemicals. Do not use products mostly filled with water content; the products you use will be more efficient if they are concentrated and you will be able to use smaller quantities. Clean your skin before applying your moisturizer, and take the time to massage the areas you need to hydrate so the moisturizer reaches the deeper layers of your skin. Some topical creams you have been using to treat skin conditions might be responsible for your dry skin or your breakouts.

Tip: You want to use warm water to wash your face instead of hot water. Water drys out the skin and causes chafing, especially in the winter.

Adopt an excellent hygiene. Wash your face twice a day and use an anti-bacterial soap if your skin is acne-prone. When you are in the shower, make sure you clean your entire body with a soft soap. Use a clean towel to dry and wash your clothes and bed linens more regularly. You should also clean your pores once a week with a scrubbing cream. Clean your face with some lukewarm water to open your pores and massage the areas where your clogged pores are with your scrubbing cream. Use a special brush if necessary. Rinse your face with some cold water to tighten your pores after you are done cleaning them.

Tip: Try using baking soda for exfoliating your skin. This form of exfoliation is natural, and it is extremely cheap to both buy and apply.

Certain factors will cause your skin to produce more oil than it needs. This will happen if you remove the oils already present in your skin, for instance by scrubbing your pores too often or by not drying your skin immediately after getting out of the shower. You should also avoid touching your skin and adopt a hairstyle that allows you to keep your hair out of your face. Do not wear tight clothes that rub against your skin, and keep hats and scarves away from your face.
