Satayjit Bhatkal’s Zokkomon, will premiere at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles on 17th April, 2011. The film will be screened on the last day of the festival. Zokkomon, a Hindi language film marks the directorial debut of Satyajit Bhatkal. The premiere will be held just before a nationwide release in India on 22nd April.
Zokkomon is produced by Walt Disney Studios. The film has child artiste, Darsheel Safary of Taare Zameen Par fame as the lead protagonist of the film. The film also has Manjari Phadnis and veteran Bollywood actor, Anupam Kher in a double role. Music for the film has been composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. Zokkomon is a heart rendering tale about a simple and ordinary boy, Kunal, played by Darsheel who finds the strength to face extra ordinary challenges of life. Kunal is an orphaned boy who is left to fend for himself when his cruel and heartless uncle abandons him. Kunal discovers the hero within his own self and begins his epic journey of adventure as he metamorphoses into Zokkomon.
Veteran Bollywood actor, Anupam Kher plays two roles, one of that of an evil uncle and the other that of a scientist called magic for which the actor had to don a completely new look. "It is the most difficult thing I have ever done as an actor, because both the characters are two different people. They are not even brothers. There is no similarity between them. There were days when I was doing both the characters on the same day. So I used to first spend hours doing the make-up of one character, give the shots and then change the make-up and do the other character. And everything had to be different. I had to be conscious of body language, of gestures - every single thing was a practice. It was tiring at times," said Kher in an interview.
Manjari’s plays a teacher, mentor, guide to an orphaned Darsheel and helps him in his journey in Zokkomon. Manjari Phadnis has sixteen different looks in the upcoming Bollywood film, Zokkomon. The concept has been inspired by Hollywood and Bollywood stars for the track Eena Meena Maina Mo in Zokkomon. Her various looks include those of Catherine Zeta Jones, Anarkali, Helen, Julie Andrews, Devdas, Akbar, Rockstar, Mechanic, Dhoom. The song has been choreographed by Shiamak Davar. Darsheel Safary and Anupam Kher star in the film. It must have taken hours for the actress to get not just the right look but also the right feel to get into the skin of all her sixteen avatars.
