Myanmar is a Southeast Asian country that has been under military rule in one form or another since 1962. Now after attaining democracy the leaders are planning to help the nation to grow fast and smoothly catch up with other free nations. Myanmar government's policies to enhance the economy and infrastructure for more growth and international trade are already showing great results in the used car industry in Japan and Myanmar.

The Government Policy to issue import permit to car owners whose cars have been in service for 40 years or more for surrender of the old cars to the Road Transport Department in Rangoon for smelting along with handing over a vehicle registration book. After surrendering the old car, the owner will be given a car import permit.  This is to remove the slow moving, fuel inefficient, pollution spreading vehicle of the road and bringing in better vehicles at a low cost to help improve transport and road systems. People in Myanmar also assume some reduction in duties to further encourage the import of used vehicles.

Export of used cars from Japan is rising with most vehicles destined to Sule Port in Rangoon. As per reports the first shipment of used imported Cars in Myanmar under the swap program most of them were Toyota Mark II, Mitsubishi Pajero and Hilux Surf and more of Japanese brands. More than 2,000 cars are expected to be imported in the month of December 2011 as per authorities. Some other used cars popular in Myanmar are Caldina, Corolla Spacio, Corolla Fielder, Land Cruiser, Hiace Saloon, Crown Majesta, Nissan’s Sarena, Truck, condor, Mitsubishi’s Pajero, Chariot, Fuso

As per reports in the News Myanmar government is plans to swap 36,875 cars between 20 and 30 years old from January 2012. Government is allowing some MP’s and Hoteliers to import cars too. Hope for rise in used car export from Japan is a sign of relief. Import of used Agricultural and Construction machinery will further benefit both the nations. Demand for used cars is on a sharp rise despite the strong yen.
