Learning To Feel Better About Yourself

When you don't feel good about yourself, that creates a lot of problems. You work starts to suffer, and your relationships start to suffer. After all, if you can't get along with yourself, how can other people? Here are some tips to help you start feeling better about yourself so that you can start living life again.

Tip: Avoiding decisions means missing opportunities in the arena of personal development. Do not be afraid to make decisions, even if you are not as well-informed as you could be.

The first thing you need to do is to figure out why you don't feel good about yourself. Did something happen? Did you do something wrong? You need to focus in on what is really bothering you. That way, you have somewhere to start.

Tip: Start contributing to an emergency fund. Most of us depend on credit cards to pay for unexpected expenses.

Next, you have to forgive and accept yourself. You have to know that you are worth goodness and happiness in your life. You can do this by seeing a therapist, or you can also do some work at home by repeating affirmations.

Tip: Challenge yourself to grow daily. Aim for frequent and continuous improvement.

You can also begin keeping a notebook that lists 10 positive things you do every day. This kind of journal may be hard to do at first, but when you can admit that you do something wonderful every day, it becomes hard to dislike yourself. When you are feeling down, you can go back in time through your notebook to see how much good you have done.

Tip: You can't tend to others needs until your own needs are met. No matter where you are in life, allow yourself time to recover and rejuvenate yourself.

Stop saying bad things about yourself. Even if you believe what you are telling yourself, it is not healthy for you. If you say things like "I'm so fat" when you pass a mirror, or say "I'm so stupid" throughout the day, that is damaging. Instead, if you can't start saying nice things to yourself, switch to neutral statements that don't harm you. For example, you can say "I would like to lose weight" or "I must learn to understand this".

Tip: Do you consume alcohol more than you should? Do you do other harmful things like smoke cigarettes? Your body is certainly a temple, yet these types of behaviors disregard its sanctity. You can improve your life by replacing bad habits with good ones.

Surround yourself with people who make you feel good about yourself. A lot of people are plagued by families and friends who mean well but always make people feel badly about themselves. If you don't feel good after spending time with someone, you need to cut down the amount of time you spend with them.

Tip: If you suffer from anxiety, consider heading to a movie with a friend. This gives you the opportunity to engage in a social activity that does not have a lot of risk.

Get a new look. While it may seem superficial, you need to do what you can in order to start to feel better, and sometimes making a change physically can help. Try a new haircut or a few new outfits. You might find that you aren't so bad as you thought, and others may agree with you. Changing your look around might put a new spring in your step.

Tip: If you see that you are frequently not reaching the goals and expectations that you have set for yourself, stop and reassess what the problems might be. Check online and find others whom share similar goals with you and find out what they are doing compared to what you're doing.

Learn something new. If you can take up a hobby or learn something, you will start to discover that you can feel a sense of pride when you accomplish something in your new pasttime. For example, if you take up ballroom dancing, you might discover that you are excellent at the waltz; maybe you dance better than others in your class!

Learning to like yourself is something that is important in your life. You are the only person who spends every waking moment with yourself, so you need to learn to appreciate yourself. Use the information here to help you.
