Being your best is something that many strive for on a daily basis. Many people have good intentions, but have a hard time reaching their goals. Since life is so short, it is crucial that you live each day to the fullest and enjoy all that you can. It is easiest to do this when you are happy and healthy. While this is a great goal, it is so much easier said than done a lot of the time. When you are serious about trying to become a better person the tips in the following article can help lead you in the right direction.

1. The first thing you need to do is come up with a plan and some goals. It is important that you record these somehow. You can do so either by writing them down in a journal, typing them out on your computer, or in any way that you can think of. Research shows that people who get their goals down on paper are much more likely to follow through and eventually reach these goals. It is also good for you to have these goals spelled out so you can refer to them as often as you see fit.

Tip: When you're trying to improve yourself, failure can be a terrible hit to your self-esteem. Actually, failure is really a learning experience.

The goals you set for yourself should be realistic and attainable. You started reading this article because you want to be a better person. Now, it is time to dig deep inside yourself and determine what changes you need to make to your life to become that better person.

2. Follow your dreams and not trends. When you are setting goals for yourself, be sure that you make goals that will please you, not those around you. While you do want to make others happy, your happiness should come first.

Tip: Your health has an effect on your emotional state. Consistent workouts and proper nutrition should be integral to your lifestyle.

3. Another thing you need to do is feed your body in a healthy manner. When you are well fed, you are in a much better state of mind to take the actions you need to take to become a better you. Try your best to eat a healthy diet full of fruits and vegetables, lean meats, low-fat dairy, nuts, beans and whole grains and stay away from fried foods, processed foods and foods full of sugar and fat. Also, keep an eye on your portion sizes. You will be surprised at how much better you feel when you follow a healthy diet and you will look better, too.

Tip: Take the time to read what has helped others to be who they want to be. Learn from their mistakes and think about following a similar path if your goals correspond to theirs.

4. Along with a healthy diet, you also need to get enough good sleep and relaxation time. Just like proper nutrition, proper rest is good for your body and needed for you to be able to function at its best. It is important that you get a healthy night's sleep of seven to nine hours and take time for yourself, too.

Tip: Eliminate unnecessary stress from your daily life. Reacting too strongly to negative events will just make you more stressed, which is the last thing you need.

5. Try to de-stress your life as much as possible. While there is no way to totally eliminate stress, you can get rid of some stress and learn how to deal with the other stress. Learn how to say no to the things you can not handle or do not have time for. Try your best to stay away from people or situations that stress you out. To deal with stress, you can learn breathing techniques, exercise, meditate or learn other stress relievers that can help you.

Becoming a better you is a great goal to have. In order to get your mind right, it is important that you have a healthy body and healthy mind. Use the tips here to help you reach all your goals.
