The Royal Scottish Academy was founded in 1826, and is widely known for exhibiting some of Scotland’s most prolific art works in the country’s capital, Edinburgh. With a recently, refurbished building, it is now recognised as being a world class exhibition spaces, showcasing traditional works as well as contemporary art that represents the modern changes in art including presenting work produced by artists who use media as their creative output.

The academy is known for its modern take on these exhibitions and events and regularly presents innovative retrospectives of the arts in Scotland, making it a unique experience.

One of the academy’s most established exhibitions today is the Open Exhibition, which hosts a selection of small artistic works from a variation of established members of the academy and guest artists who have applied specifically to exhibit their work there. The range of work shown during this time will vary greatly from paintings and sculptures to more modern expressions through photography and film. These creations from the artists involved are also available for purchase by the general public too, so if you're visiting and you see something you like, you could go home with a very special souvenir of your trip to the exhibition.
