The concept is familiar to us all – if you could have ten people dead or alive at your dream dinner party, who would it be? While the chances of two people picking the exact same list are slim to none at best, most of us would surely be in agreement that a diverse mix of guests chosen from across many different fields i.e. politics, film & TV, music and sports would certainly lead to a more interesting and stimulating experience all round.
Of course, as mentioned, no two lists are likely to be exactly the same – it is all down to personal taste and interests. However, there are perhaps some better known names that would appear more frequently than others. Take for example, musical legends such as John Lennon or Elvis Presley. With both having fans of all ages the world over, many would jump at the chance to listen to them strum a guitar and tell tales of their musical excesses over the years.
There are many prolific political figures that could appear in people’s top tens – JFK, Nelson Mandela, Winston Churchill, Barack Obama and Gandhi being just a few. And in terms of guests from the religious spectrum, the Dali Lama would almost certainly top many of our lists. This fascinating man no doubt has many profound observations and is also known for having a very infectious laugh!
For those of us who may dream of being reunited with loved ones who have passed away, the chance to spend one last evening in their company would be an exceptionally special event. This is perhaps the reason why so many people chose to include dearly departed friends and family on their fantasy dinner party list. While they may not necessarily be famous or even well known, there could surely be nothing more precious than one last conversation with someone you have loved and lost.
Fans of celebrity culture would perhaps be drawn to invite someone who appears to live a glamorous ‘jet set’ lifestyle and is constantly in the tabloids (not necessarily always for good things!). Think Victoria Beckham, Paris Hilton and perhaps the nation’s sweetheart Cheryl Cole. Men would enjoy her company for the obvious reasons while women would be itching to discuss her style and find out what she really thinks about Ashley! And if she wasn’t willing to divulge that information, then if nothing else, she could definitely give you some tips on what are the best bars and restaurants in Newcastle
While it is fair to say most of us will never be able to experience our ‘fantasy dinner party’ for real, it is certainly nice to imagine it. And there is nothing stopping you from planning the menu and cooking the meal of your dreams to share with friends and family!
