The Eco Friendly Hammock Straps

A hammock provides the best sleeping option whether you are in a scenic island vacation or just enjoying the gently breeze in your backyard. It is meant to provide rest and relaxation. However, if it is not properly set up, a hammock can cause the opposite of its original intention. It can be the source of frustration or at times injuries. Hammock straps come to the rescue.

When hanging a hammock, you are given two choices to do it. The first possibility is by using hardware supports and the second one is by means of using straps. Because we are opting for the last one we need to know more about what they are.

The advantages of using hammock straps

Hammock straps are also called tree huggers. They are straps made of durable and weather-resistant materials that are fitted around the body of the trees to be used for hanging the hammock. Enjoying a hammock without having to feel guilty is possible by using these straps. There is no need to drill into the trees to insert nails and spikes, which are harmful to the trees. Sometimes doing this can kill a tree because the outer inches of the tree composed 80% of its living cells. Using these straps can make you a little prouder to become part of the movement in preserving trees whether they are in your own backyard, or out in the forest.

These straps are easy to use. They are simply tied around the trees. There are provisions that allow you to hook up any item. The straps can be easily adjusted at your desired height to make you enjoy your hammock more. The straps can be made to wrap around the trees in such a secured manner that slippage becomes impossible. The suggested way of making a snug wrap is to slip the straps up and down the tree and cross them by making a layering pattern. Once securely tied, the straps give protection to the tree bark because it serves to cushion impact every time the hammock is pulled.

Straps designed for hammocks are brilliant portable solutions for hanging hammocks in any location. They are simple and easy to install as much as easier to remove. This makes it possible to move the hammock from one place to another without experiencing many difficulties. Straps are handy aids even if you want to transfer the hammock indoor or to any place without trees that can be used for hanging. The straps can be adjusted to fit around the posts or be attached to a hook in indoor ceiling.

Setting up your hammock using straps is simple. In about 15 minutes, you have the hammock ready for you.

Making Your Own Straps

If you do not want those ready-to-use straps available in hardware or camping stores, you can also make your own. The steps are as follows.

• Use a pair of scissors to cut two pieces of polyester webbing. Each must measure 3-foot long.

• Fold each end by three inches. Sew down each end with a sewing machine thus making a loop. It is best to sew many times over to make sure they are going to stand the pulling pressure. Do this with the other piece of strap.
• Place a hook in each loop of the strap. One hook will be attached to the hammock strap while the other end wraps around the body of the tree until it finds the strap end where it will be attached.

It only takes two things for you to unwind and enjoy some relaxing moment: a hammock and those eco-friendly hammock straps. As you relax, enjoy that happy feeling that you are also making the trees a lot happier.
