If a person consumes an extremely large amount of calories, no amount of exercise will result in weight loss. The exception being professional athletes as they work out for several hours a day.

Studies have shown that the average person burns at least 1200 calories a day. This means that everybody needs at least 1200 calories to function. Experts recommend that dieters consumer between 1200 to 1500 calories per day.

Tip: You can lose a small amount of weight fast by increasing your water intake. Cut down on solid food, and drink a minimum of 1/2 gallon of water each day, and you'll lose water weight over a week's time.

The ideal diet will consist of fiber and protein. These can be incorporated into the diet by eating fruits, vegetables, lean meats and whole grains. Generally speaking, the less processed a food is, the better it is for the body.

Once a dieter has created a meal plan, they will need to set up a food diary. Food diaries are essential as they allow dieters to track their calorie consumption. Those who do not keep a diary are likely to overeat and/or eat high calorie foods.

Setting Up an Exercise Regime

In order to burn more calories, dieters should exercise. Those who are happy to go to the gym may want to take fitness classes. However, attending gym classes is not the only way to become active.

Tip: Don't allow the food you eat to be your primary source of joy. A lot of people like to cook, and eat what they make.

For some people, engaging in outdoor activities is preferable to going to the gym. Activities like swimming, team sports and running are fun and burn a lot of calories. Because motivation plays a huge role in weight loss, it is important to select an enjoyable exercise routine.

There are countless advertisements for miracle weight loss products on the internet. If any of these products worked, everybody would be using them. Unfortunately, most weight loss products and programs are a waste of money.

Tip: Take a breather halfway through each meal. Often, your body has difficulty knowing when it needs no more food.

The most reliable method of weight loss is healthy eating and exercise. Dieters should look at their eating plan as a lifestyle change not a diet. Doing so will help enforce the idea that eating well is a life long habit not a means to weight loss.

Losing weight is not an easy process. It will take time, effort and patience. As losing more than one to two pounds a week is dangerous, dieters will need to set realistic goals. Those who follow the tips discussed above will eventually see results.
