Knowhow-Now Article

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is one of the city’s best celebrations, with art, theatre, music and comedy filling the streets for almost a whole month.

There isn’t a better time to visit Edinburgh than during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The weather is usually lovely thanks to the festival taking place in August, the streets are milling with artists and performers eager to show off their work and entertain crowds without charging a penny, and everybody’s in the mood to celebrate as the city comes to life with music, theatre, comedy and much more.

Join thousands of other lovers of the arts in Edinburgh this year at yet another celebration of all things creative. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is much beloved by performers all around the globe thanks to its free nature, where shows can go ahead if the performers are able to fund them, and nobody is rejected if they’ve got the means. This means that people who may be extremely talented but may not otherwise have a chance to get themselves on stage have a shot, and even big name performers head to Edinburgh on their own merit, rather than having their agents arrange it for them as part of a tour.

Because of this arrangement – where artists perform because they want to rather than because they have to – there is a very easy, relaxed atmosphere in the city when the festival is taking place. It’s more of a sense of celebration than anything else, and if you’re looking for signs of a party then all you need to do is head up to Edinburgh’s Royal Mile to discover heaps of street performances taking place all day every day, from singing to dancing, from impromptu comedy to busking and jugglers, sword swallowers and caricaturists, and far more.

And if you’re travelling to Edinburgh on a budget, don’t fear – plenty of the shows that take place during the festival are affordable and intend to stay that way forever. There’s also lots of free stuff going on which you can find out online and at the Free Fringe box office and in pamphlets. To save a bit of extra cash, if you book your Edinburgh hotels for the start of the festival then you’ll be able to make the most of the previews, which tend to take place between the Monday and Thursday before the Friday night shows and the start of the festival.

Accessible, affordable and accommodating, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe is truly a wonderful time to visit Edinburgh and is sure to show the city at its best to visitors from all over.
