It’s no revelation that hitting the high street to go shopping is usually not a man’s idea of a good time. Who can blame you? The hustle and bustle, the endless array of choices; sadly, fashion is predominantly a female environment. Most of you will pop in, see something similar to one you already have, pick up your size, swipe your debit card and you’re out the door quicker than you can say "hoodie and trainers please". But fear not! Help is at hand for all you blokes that like to be fashionable but don't like to go shopping.
For the broad shouldered man, anything slim fit or skinny style will require you to jump up a size, resulting in a rather boxy, unflattering look, and giving off the illusion that the shirt doesn’t actually fit you properly. Also, anything floral or heavily patterned can make you look like a giant wrapped in wallpaper. So, for all you rugby player builds out there, shopping on-trend is even tougher. However, 2011 saw the checked shirt make an epic comeback. The fashion world seems incapable of shaking its love for plaid. This is probably because whatever you wear it with- it looks great. Plaid was originally adapted from Scottish tartan, used to create the traditional kilt. Wear checked shirts with loose slung jeans and sneakers for a relaxed look. The loose hanging of the shirt won’t cling to broad shoulders and will still flatter your waist without looking shapeless.
Carefully tailored for intellectual looking gents with a neatly pressed collar for work and a fresh, clean look for summer evenings spent sipping beer in your local beer garden, it can only be the Oxford Shirt. These look great with your spring time loafers or summer boat shoes. Pair with tailored shorts or chinos and you can’t go wrong- geek chic never looked so good!
Another controversial contender is the ‘chambray’ shirt, a faux denim-looking shirt that's well-suited to the fashion-conscious gent. Whether teamed with chinos or cords, chambray shirts look great on a slim or larger built man, and for the more daring among you, team them up with dark jeans. You’ll find that double denim isn’t as 80s as you thought.
Finally, the get-up every girl loves, the handsome shirt and tie combination never fails to get hearts racing. So if you’re looking for a nicely tailored shirt to team up with your penguin suit, or perhaps a more casual addition to your work wardrobe, a regular smart shirt could be the piece you’re looking for. There are a range of different styles available to suit your size requirements and various colours to match your favourite suit jacket and trousers.
As you can see, the range of menshirts available means that no matter what your shape, height or size there are many pieces on the market to flatter you (and your rugby shoulders).
