Going Over Some Mobile Marketing Basics

Before you spread your wings in the mobile market and work to attract a wide customer base, you first have to start out with the basics. No matter how much you think you know about the genre, you're going to remain limited by your overall lack of knowledge pertaining specifically to mobile marketing. So it's always best if you start out by learning the basics of the niche.

The first thing you have to understand is that mobile searches aren't the same as basic internet searches carried out on home PCs and laptops. For instance, on a home computer or laptop, people are opening up full-sized internet browsers and can view a lot of detailed information. Via a mobile search, that information shrinks, and the user is viewing a more concise list of options. So the way you develop your content for the mobile market has to be able to stand out using the "less is more" philosophy.

Tip: Use MMS or text messaging to send coupons to new and existing customers when you want to increase sales. Offer promo codes with your coupons.

Although mobile screen sizes are a lot smaller, they're also a lot brighter and give the user a lot more detail. This can be a good thing and a bad thing at the same time. The good: You can create high-quality images on your site and apps and really offer eye-popping material for your audience. The bad: If you're attempting to design full-sized content, a mobile phone is going to shrink it down and your work will just be wasted. You have to cater specifically to a mobile display.

Using text to get through to a mobile market is pretty standard, but that doesn't mean you should use standard text. Because you'll have to shrink your content down from paragraphs to a few short sentences, the way you fit keywords into your content has to change. Things like a call to action also have to change. Instead of using the body of text to set up for the final call to action, you have to simply rely on a catchier call if you want to entice people through text.

Tip: If you have profiles on social media sites, be certain to place a link to them on your site pages. If your customers know you have a presence on a social media network, they will check you out but they won't search.

Now, you may be thinking that creating a cool video is a fantastic way to draw in a mobile audience, but you also have to realize that most people have bandwidth limitations. This means that the last thing you should ever do is attempt to send a video. However, if you have a video posted on your site that's created in a universal format, this will offer your mobile visitors something a lot more entertaining than mere text.

Mobile games are a great way to get people coming back to your site time and again. But before you install any type of game on your site, you first have to be careful that it's not going to take too much bandwidth to operate. This will limit the number of people that can play your game. Think about going with something classic. Think along the lines of Pac-Man or Super Mario (somewhere in that wheelhouse) instead of a graphics-intense, processor-demanding game.

Tip: Always keep the line of communication open with your customers. Allow them to give you feedback every step of the way.

One of the best parts about marketing to a mobile audience is that there is a literal endless supply of apps out there you can create. Find a third-party tool to help you create different apps for a wide range of features, from contests and prize drawings to different games and polls. A mobile app will automatically make the content viewable and workable for a mobile device and for a regular computer or laptop.

Catering to the mobile market is a great way to increase your business profile. Use the tips above to help you learn the basics of this particular genre.
