Helpful Tips Concerning Arthritis And Your Sleep

When afflicted with arthritis, you can find it is sometimes difficult to sleep at night. Arthritis complicates your comfort, and it therefore makes sleeping not as restful as it should be. However, there are things you can do to help. Consider the following helpful tips concerning arthritis and your sleep.

One of the things you need to do is to establish consistent sleeping habits. This means that if you go to bed at 10 pm, try to do that every day. Whatever time you select according to your schedule is good for you. Also, wake up at the same time each day, and make sure you're getting enough hours total of sleep as well. This is a very important step so that your body has consistent and adequate rest.

Tip: Use either hot or cold compresses on your aching joints. This can help to relieve the pain you are feeling.

Alcohol is good to skip altogether, but you should especially stop drinking alcohol at least by late afternoon. If you want to enjoy a lunchtime margarita, fine, but alcohol shouldn't be consumed as it gets later in the day. Also, the same goes for caffeinated beverages. Have your coffee in the morning, and if you must have a soda or some tea, go for it. Stop drinking them, however, as it gets later in the day.

Also, use your bed for only sleeping purposes. This will make it more inviting. Don't lounge in your room on the bed with your laptop or watching television. Instead, leave your bed for when it's time to go to sleep only.

Tip: Consider joining an arthritis support group. Friends and family members who don't suffer from arthritis may have a hard time understanding exactly what you are going through and how much it affects your life.

With an adequate sleep schedule and an organized workout regimen and daily activity plan, you shouldn't have to worry about taking those daytime naps, especially if you're also watching your diet. Skip the naps, as this can give you trouble trying to go to bed at night as well. You want the bed to be inviting, and you want to need your rest more than you feel uncomfortable due to the arthritis.

Exercise is an important part of your daily life when you have arthritis. There must be a balance between exercise and rest. However, you need to have a consistent exercise routine, and you shouldn't be planning your exercise within three hours of time for you to go to bed. You need to take care of it earlier in the day. The best time for exercise is first thing in the morning, but at least don't do it right before bedtime.

Tip: If you have rheumatoid arthritis, measure your pain. Use a scale of one to ten to let yourself know how difficult a new task is for you to accomplish.

Your bedroom needs to be a calm and relaxing place. Make sure it's cooled down, and keep it dark and quiet. No sleeping with the television or radio on, and make sure you keep out any outside noise. You want to be relaxed and ready to sleep.

The tips you've just read in this article should help you have a better night's sleep. Don't let arthritis keep you up. Your rest is required, and it will help you arthritis as well. Remember the advice you've read, and work towards getting the rest that your body deserves and needs each day.
