Browsing around the vast expanse of the Internet, you will see that blogs are truly a dime a dozen. For every successful blog that's in operation out there, you could find literally thousands of blogs that don't earn money and that are just collecting dust at the bottom of the rankings. So, if you want to blog the right way and actually earn from your efforts, you have to put in the work and learn about the genre.
The first thing you need to focus on with a winning blog is the actual title of the blog. Not only does your title have to be specific for its respective niche, possibly even containing some keywords, but it also needs to be catchy. This can take a few different tries and a lot of head scratching to pull off, but it's a very important step in your blogging venture.
The most successful blogs you will find go to great lengths to keep their content fresh and exciting. This may even require the use of guest posts and paid bloggers to help with the task, but they get new content turned out constantly. This is something you need to emulate. You need to update your content consistently in order to give your readers a reason to come back.
No blog post is complete without a good picture. If you just print out your text and hope to attract readers with this, you're really missing the point of blogging. You can take your own interesting pictures or you can find some stock photos that are free to use. Either way, you need to display some eye candy with your text. It just makes your posts pop.
Just because you're running a blog doesn't mean you can't also make things exciting for everyone involved. The only thing stopping you from holding different contests and offering different prizes is your imagination. Create a sign-up section for a type of contest and offer people free stuff. This will bring you a lot of traffic.
Blogging is all about niche marketing, and you need to remember this fact as you work on your blog. For example, if you're blogging about weight loss through dietary changes, you can't expect to pull in traffic from gamers talking about the new Halo release. These markets are completely separate! So, you have to link with and become fans of blogs within your own niche. Going outside of the niche is just a wasted effort.
What do you know how to do? What are you passionate about doing in your life? This is how you find blogging fodder. If you're writing posts about things you actually like to write about, the content will naturally flow and it will be much more interesting. Blogging about something you don't have passion for will be too much like a chore to churn out the content.
There's really no such thing as a bad blog, just an uninspired blogger. So, before you attempt to make it in blogging, you have to be ready to follow the proper path to success.
