History of Boba Milk Tea

Boba milk tea is also referred as bubble milk tea. Boba milk tea was originally introduced in Taiwan in the early 1980’s. This was sold in a small stand during its early years of existence. These small stands are often located near schools where kids can easily buy a glass after their class.

As time went by, the popularity of Boba milk spread across Asia. It became known as a delicious refreshment that compared favourably to the well-known carbonated drinks from the United States. Today, the authentic boba recipe has become a favorite for many people all over the world.

What Makes Boba Milk Tea Addicting?

Aside from the aromatic smell and rich flavor of tea that blends well with the sweetness of milk, the essential ingredients may remain or have been perfected in its recipe. However, what make this a one of a kind of milk tea recipe are its additional add-ons of tapioca balls - simply known nowadays as pearls. It is a chewy small ball that merges well with the greatness of milk tea until the last sip; this is definitely one of the milk teas that top the best tasting list.

Simple Guideline on How to Make Boba Milk Tea

Essential Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup dried boba tapioca pearls
  • 1-2 any kinds of tea bags
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • Milk, sweetened condensed milk or almond milk

Preparation:

  1. In a saucepan, place 2 cups of water and bring it to a boil over high heat temperature. Add 1/4 cup of tapioca pearls and gently stir until the pearls start to float to the surface of the water. Then, adjust the heat to medium, and cook the pearls for about 13-15 minutes. Turn off the heat and allow the pearls to sit for another 13-15 minutes.
  2. While the tapioca pearls are cooking, prepare the Boba sugar syrup; it is a simple sugar mixture that helps in sweetening and preserving the pearls once cooked. Boil 1/2 cup of water over high heat temperature either through the microwave or the stove. Once it boils, get rid of the mixture from the heat and place 1/2 cup of sugar and stir until it dissolves. Set aside to cool down.
  3. After, drain the water from the tapioca pearls saucepan and transfer them into a small container. Add and mix the sugar syrup over the top until the tapioca pearls are immersed. Then, refrigerate the tapioca pearl mixture until it is ready to be used.
  4. Add tea bag in hot water and let it stay. Remove the tea bag after 10-15 minutes and chill the tea.
  5. Mix all together. Combine the prepared tea, milk and add extra water with a couple of ice cubes into blender or shaker; blend or shake all together. In a tall glass, place the Boba or tapioca mixture first and pour the blended or shake milk tea. Place big straw and it is ready to be served.
