One trait is that a partner is very possessive; this could slowly yet inevitably lead to violence. Another more obvious trait would be that a partner is an alcoholic. Now this does not mean you should go on a witch-hunt on all who consume alcohol! Most alcoholics can be charming and intelligent individuals. Yet it is when the alcohol becomes the main thing in their life do they take out their frustrations in a violent way. Usually it is their partner that becomes the sole victim of these unwarranted attentions. Finally, just remember that if you do know that someone is in an abusive relationship, you must take some time to draw that person out and empower him or her to seek help.
