Going on a trip or vacation is usually a great way to get away and clear your mind. However, under circumstances, your experience may not go so well. The following tips will help to make your travels enjoyable.
Keep your most valuable items in your carry-on bags. This includes your cell phone and its chargers, your laptop, your money and jewelry. Unfortunately, it is all too common for airlines to lose passengers' luggage. If this were to happen to you, at least you have the most important items on you.
Double check all reservations prior to even leaving for your trip. Call the airline to be sure your flight is scheduled to arrive on time. Also, speak with the hotel you will be staying in to be sure you are still have a reservation. Your whole trip could be ruined if you show up to the airport, only to find out your flight has been cancelled or to get to the hotel to learn there has been some kind of mix up and you have no room to stay in.
Bring extra money with you on your trip. Ideally, try to take double the amount you probably need. Certain scenarios may require you having extra money. For example, say you need to come home early for an emergency; you may have to pay extra in order to get an earlier flight. Scenarios like this make it wise to have additional cash.
Have copies of all important documents on you, such as your passport, identification, and any other travel information. As careful as you may be, you never know when these documents could get stolen or lost. Then, it would be hard for you to get back home. Make these copies while you are still at home and take them with you when you leave for your trip.
Do not over-pack; this cannot be overstated enough. People think it is wise to bring half their wardrobe or 10 pairs of shoes with them. In reality, this just makes it hard to carry your luggage around and does not leave you any room for the items you may purchase on your trip. Pack just enough of everything, with perhaps one spare outfit and one extra pairs of shoes.
Beware of the locals. Usually, local people enjoy tourists coming to their city, as it boosts the economy. However, there are always less-than-stellar residents, no matter where in the world you go. They look at tourists as prime targets for robbery, seeing as tourists tend to have a lot of money on them. Keep your purse or bag close to you at all times and keep your eye out for anyone who looks suspicious.
